Vergennes Police Log: Christmas week proves routine for city police
VERGENNES — In a week during which Vergennes police busted the youths who allegedly stole items from as many as 14 cars on Christmas Eve and Christmas morning and damaged another four vehicles (see story in A section), they also handled a number of somewhat more routine items.
Between Dec. 25 and 31, Vergennes police also:
• On Dec. 25 helped vehicle owners get into their locked vehicles on Meadow Lane and Main Street.
• On Dec. 26 helped a vehicle owner get into a locked vehicle on South Water Street.
• On Dec. 26 sent the department Drug Recognition Expert to help Vermont State Police at the New Haven barracks.
• On Dec. 26 looked into a report of a suspicious person apparently casing a South Maple Street home.
• On Dec. 28 dealt with a disabled truck on Main Street near the bridge.
• On Dec. 28 helped Vermont State Police find a city resident who had been reported as possibly suicidal.
• On Dec. 28 determined the driver of a truck that had been reported to be weaving on Route 7 was OK.
• On Dec. 28 helped a vehicle owner get into a locked vehicle on Panton Road.
• On Dec. 29 checked a report of a man sleeping in a van and learned he was part of a moving crew.
• On Dec. 29 advised a woman dealing with harassing calls from her ex-husband.
• On Dec. 29 responded to a report of a man and an ex-girlfriend arguing about rent and living responsibilities and told them that it was a Family Court matter.
• On Dec. 29 arranged for an alternative for a youth refusing to go home with foster parents.
• On Dec. 30 handled a minor two-car accident on Meadowbrook Road in Ferrisburgh on behalf of state police.
