Brandon Inn to host the science discussion in the pub this Sunday

BRANDON — In the sixth season of the well-known Science PUB discussion series sponsored by the Friends of the Castleton Free Library, the final two lectures will be held at the Brandon Inn. On Sunday, Feb. 4, at 4 p.m., Michael Durst, Assistant Professor of Physics at Middlebury College will present, “The Physics of Peering Into Our Brains and Hearts.”
Then on Sunday, March 4, at 4 p.m., naturalist and VPR regular commentator Bridget Butler, aka Vermont’s Bird Diva, will lead a birding camp at the Brandon Inn, teaching songs and how to view birds of the area.
It’s the first time in the series’ six years that programs will be hosted in Brandon.
The series is billed as “a free monthly gathering of curious, stimulating and altogether fun individuals to hear short informal lectures by area experts, and join the lively conversation. Have a drink, stay for dinner (or not), and end your weekend with a spurt of brain growth!”
Durst’s lecture on Sunday, Feb. 4 will look at how today’s advanced lasers for biomedical imaging “see into tissues and organs without making an incision,” and “how they do it with such impressive resolution and breathtaking speed.” He’ll explain how “they go deeper to create 3D images, and discuss their application in medical research.”
