OV schools reject guns

BRANDON — At their recent annual school meeting, residents of the Brandon-area schools approved a non-binding resolution calling for the district not to allow teachers and staff to possess guns in the Brandon, Leicester, Whiting and other district schools.
Brandon resident Richard Baker suggested the resolution at the Otter Valley Unified Union Annual Meeting on Feb. 28, saying he did not believe the teachers should have guns in schools and noted this would be a forum for discussion of the matter. Baker asked if there should be a resolution to the effect that teachers and the staff, except the police officer, will not have guns in the schools.
Moderator Bill Moore said a non-binding resolution was possible.
Judi Pulsifer moved and Devon Fuller seconded that the teachers and staff, other than the police officer, will not have guns in schools through a non-binding resolution. The motion passed.
