Eagle softball wins two of three on the road

CHITTENDEN COUNTY — The Mount Abraham Union High School softball team improved to 4-1 by taking two out of three weekend games played in Chittenden County against Division I competition.
The defending D-II champs are back on top of the D-II point standings, according to the Vermont Principals’ Association website, just ahead of Fair Haven (6-1).
On Friday, the Eagles snapped a 4-4 seventh-inning tie with three runs in the top of the inning in a 7-4 victory at Colchester (3-2). Audrey Shahan earned the complete game win, allowing seven hits, issuing three intentional walks and striking out three. Shahan also contributed two hits to Mount Abe’s 13-hit attack off losing pitcher Allie Sheets.
Also sparking the attack were Emily Aldrich, with two hits, two walks, two RBIs and four stolen bases; Kaitlyn Ouellette, with two hits and two runs; and Jess Murray and Ruby Ball, with two hits apiece.
In the first of two Saturday games in two locations, the Eagles won one and lost one. In an 11 a.m. game, Missisquoi ace Sarah Harvey tossed a one-hitter and struck out 10 in the T-Birds’ 8-1 win over the Eagles. Erika Tracey’s sixth-inning infield single broke up Harvey’s no-hit bid. Shahan took the loss. MVU improved to 4-1.
The Eagles bounced back to win, 6-1, that afternoon at Mount Mansfield. Details were not available on that game before deadline.
