Otter Valley softball drops a pair to tough foes
SPRINGFIELD — The Otter Valley Union High School softball team came up short twice in the latter half of last week, once at home and once on the road, and the Otters stand at 1-5 heading into this week.
On Wednesday, visiting Windsor (3-2) scored 10 times in the sixth inning in a 16-14 victory over the Otters. Losing pitcher Morgan LaPorte surrendered nine hits and 13 walks, a number of them in the decisive sixth. The Otters worked 10 walks off winning pitcher Carah Rugg, who also allowed nine hits. Gabby Poalino doubled twice and tripled and Katie Coolidge poked two hits to lead the OV attack.
On Saturday, host Brattleboro (4-0) earned a five-inning, 15-0 victory as Colonel hurler Haleigh Derosia tossed a no-hitter and struck out eight. LaPorte took the loss for OV, allowing 12 hits, but also reducing the bases on balls total to five.
