Literacy group offers training video for childcare providers

Mothers and fathers intuitively know reading with their young children is important. But what do they do when they get distracted, aren’t in the mood, or can’t sit still? How can a parent/family member or early childcare provider help their kids develop strong literacy skills?
The Children’s Literacy Foundation (CLiF) recently made videos on the importance of reading with young kids in their formative years and tips for sharing books with them. Parents and families can watch the full video on reading with your kids or shorter versions by age group here, where you’ll also find reading and writing resources for your family.
CLiF Advisor and  Plymouth State University Professor of Early Childhood Studies Pat Cantor says reading is “right up there with brushing teeth. It should be a part of every day’s routine.”

CLiF also recently announced a video designed to help early childcare providers work with young children to develop their literacy skills. Crucial literacy skills are developed in a child’s first five years, so early childcare providers play an important role in helping young children develop those skills.
