Youth Resilience workshops offered to parents this Wednesday evening

Addison Central School District is inviting parents to take part in a collection of workshops on Wednesday, April 10, designed to help them communicate with their children on important developmental issues.
“Building Resilience in our Youth,” a series of parent workshops at Middlebury Union High School, will take place from 6-8 p.m. All workshops will be offered twice so parents can attend multiple workshops.
The offerings are as follows:
Alcohol, Drugs, and Juuling Awareness
Presenter: Gayle Finklestein from UVM Medical Center/Northern New England Poison Center
This workshop will discuss current trends and tips for talking to your child about vaping/juuling, marijuana and other substances.
Helping your Teen Manage Stress and Anxiety
Presenter: LuAnn Chiola from Counseling Service of Addison County
A workshop designed to help parents recognize the difference between stress and anxiety and how to navigate the emotional landscape of our tweens and teens. Parents will also learn the importance of building resilience in our youth and knowing when to step aside and allow healthy risk-taking.
Tweens, Teens, and Screens
Presenters: Julie Berry, Samantha Farrell-Schmitt, and Amy Mason from Parents Supporting Thoughtful Technology
A workshop on how to navigate screens at home and the impact screen time has on our youth. We will discuss challenges parents face within their own families and helpful strategies.

This workshop will explore developmental reproductive health issues as they pertain to individual and relational dynamics. Learn strategies to help guide meaningful conversations with your youth, including discussions of consent, healthy relationships, and red flags in the age of #MeToo.
