In high school softball Otters hosted Eagles; Tigers won at home
ADDISON COUNTY — Otter Valley defeated Mount Abraham in a key Division II clash to highlight local high school softball play late last week. In other games not postponed by poor weather Middlebury won at home, but Vergennes lost a road game.
OTTERS-EAGLES
On Thursday OV scored three runs in the first and defeated visiting Mount Abe, 4-1. The Otters backed winning pitcher Morgan LaPorte with strong defense and got a key RBI single from Josie Comb. Ruby Ball took the loss, striking out 10 and throwing well after a rocky first inning. OV stood at 6-3 after its Saturday home game vs. Springfield was washed out.
On Saturday the Eagles (6-3) hosted Mount Mansfield; see story on Page 18. The Otters’ Friday home game vs. Springfield was postponed; no makeup date was immediately announced.
TIGERS
On Thursday the Tigers topped visiting Milton, 5-1, as Gwen Stafford homered twice and tossed three hitless innings. Kyra Roberts tripled, doubled and singled for MUHS, Sydney Provencher singled home a run and Ashley Sunderland poked a pair hits.
The 4-2 Tigers’ Saturday game at South Burlington was postponed.
COMMODORES
On Thursday host BFA-Fairfax improved to 8-1 with a 16-1, six-inning victory over VUHS (0-10). Audrey Tembreull doubled for one of the three VUHS hits and came around to score the Commodore run.
