Omer String Quartet tunes up in Rochester

THE YOUNG AND talented Omer String Quartet will perform at the Federated Church in Rochester on Friday, Aug. 2, 7 p.m. Part of the Rochester Chamber Music Society’s 25th anniversary summer concert series.

ROCHESTER — The Rochester Chamber Music Society presents the award-winning Omer String Quartet on Friday, Aug. 2, 7 p.m., at the Federated Church in Rochester, as part of the RCMS’s 25th anniversary summer concert series. Known for their energetic, enthusiastic and sophisticated performances, the Omer Quartet has garnered top prizes in numerous competitions.
The evening program will include Brahms String Quartet No. 3 in B-flat major; Webern Six Bagatelles, Schumann String Quartet in F major, Op. 41, No. 1, Adagio;  Kurtάg “Aus Der Ferne III;” and Schubert String Quartet in G major, D. 887.
Comprising Mason Yu, violin; Erica Tursi, violin; Jinsun Hong, viola; and Alex Cox, cello; the Omer Quartet is a leader among today’s young string quartets. Most recently first-prize winners of the Young Concert Artists Auditions, the quartet came into prominence in 2013, when it received Grand Prize and gold medal at the Fischoff National Competition. They then received top prize at the Borciani International Competition, second prize at the Trondheim International Competition, and special prize at the Bordeaux International Competition. Having completed a graduate residency mentored by Paul Katz at the New England Conservatory, they are currently the Doctoral Fellowship Quartet in residence at the University of Maryland, working with David Salness and Katherine Murdock.
