Police ID man killed in Salisbury as cousin of Rutland police shooting victim

SALISBURY — Vermont State Police on Thursday provided the name of the man whose body was found dead in Salisbury on Tuesday morning.
The body of 34-year-old Nicholas Louras of Rutland was found off Route 53/Lake Dunmore Road in Salisbury on the morning of Oct. 8.
Vermont’s Chief Medical Examiner’s Office performed an autopsy on Wednesday, which state police said enabled them to positively identify Nicholas Louras. They said someone shot him to death with a gun.
Louras is a cousin of Christopher G. Louras, 33, of Rutland, who died as the result of an exchanging of gunfire with Rutland City and Rutland Town police officers Tuesday morning in downtown Rutland.
Nicholas Louras and Christopher G. Louras are cousins.
Christopher G. Louras is the son of former Rutland Mayor Christopher C. Louras.
State police investigation into this case continued on Thursday morning. Officers said the search for information was active, spanned multiple scenes and involved numerous members of the Vermont State Police Major Crime Unit, Bureau of Criminal Investigations, Crime Scene Search Team, Field Force Division and Support Services Division, along with the Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife officials.
Police on Thursday did not speculate on a possible motive for Christopher Louras’ actions.
No one else was injured in these incidents, and police do not believe there is any ongoing danger to the public.
Additional information will be released as it becomes available, according to VSP Public Information Officer Adam Silverman.
The Vermont State Police would still like to speak with anyone who has information about these events and encourages possible witnesses to call the Rutland barracks at 802-773-9101.
