Letter to the editor: Senate Republican leadership lacking in ethics

The Senate is not broken — the Republican leadership is. Simply put, they are unethical. Ethicists tell us that ethical people consider the needs of others and strive to see things for what they are. In contrast, unethical people strive to gain selfish advantage and look for ways to validate their current way of thinking. That’s what the Republican Senators, except for Mitt Romney, have done with the impeachment trial. By failing to allow witnesses and documentation, they have failed to fulfill their oath to act with “impartial justice according to the Constitution and laws.” They have gained selfish advantage and validated their preconceived outcome. If we support them, we are complicit.
