Otter girls’ hoop navigates White River

ADDISON COUNTY — The No. 9 Otter Valley Union School girls’ basketball team defeated host No. 8 White River Valley on Tuesday, in a Division III first-round playoff game.
Also in D-III on Tuesday, No. 7 Vergennes hosted No. 10 Fairfax; see separate story.
In D-II on Wednesday No. 6 Mount Abraham defeated No. 10 Lamoille, 52-30, while No. 13 Middlebury fell to host No. 4 Enosburg, 58-33.  
Details of the Otters’ game at White River on Tuesday were not available. OV improved to 10-11, while White River, which played a less challenging schedule, finished at 13-8.
The Otters will take on No. 1 Lake Region (18-2) on Friday at 7 p.m. The teams have one common opponent, Hartford. OV split two games with Hartford, losing at home, 58-34, earlier this season, but recently winning there, 48-43. The Rangers defeated visiting Hartford early this winter, 69-52.
The host Eagles improved to 15-6 by defeating the 8-13 Lancers on Wednesday. They will travel to meet No. 3 seed Harwood (18-3) on Saturday at 2 p.m. The teams did not meet this winter.
Cami Masse sparked Mount Abe vs. Lamoille with 20 points and nine rebounds, and Chloe Johnston chipped in across the board with  14 points, six assists and nine steals.
Abby Reen added seven points and seven rebounds for the Eagles, and Savannah Scrodin contributed four assists, and four steals.
Heidi Tinker scored 13 for Lamoille.
At Enosburg on Wednesday the Hornets improved to 18-3 with their victory over the Tigers. Sophie Burns (18 points) and Allison Brown (13) led Enosburg.
Annie Andrus scored 10 points to lead the Tigers, who finished 5-16.
