TIMOTHY WARD SIMPSON

RIPTON — Timothy Ward Simpson, 69, died Saturday, April 18, 2020, in Ripton, Vt. Tim ultimately chose his own time and place to die amidst the backdrop of this rapidly shifting world that has caused many of us to lose our sense of purpose.
He was born March 6, 1951, the son of Earle and Lena Simpson of Rochester, Vt.
Raised on the family farm, Tim attended school in Rochester and graduated in 1969. He then attended Johnson State College before transferring to the University of Vermont where he graduated in 1975.
Tim taught industrial arts (shop) at Rochester High School for many years. He went on to run a successful construction business (The Woodwright Inc.), building and remodeling many family homes in the Rochester area with his impeccable workmanship. He returned to the field of education later in life teaching at the Lake Champlain Waldorf School, Northlands Job Corps Center in Vergennes and at Yavapai Community College in Prescott, Ariz., where he enjoyed teaching and mentoring young people.
Tim loved dancing, hunting, hiking, fine woodworking, bicycling, four-wheeling, going to ice hockey games and enjoying the great outdoors.
For the past three years, Tim has resided in Prescott, Ariz., where he enjoyed the weather, ballroom and country dancing, socializing and visiting all but four of Arizona’s 14 natural wonders.
Tim is survived by his daughter Jennifer Simpson Weinstein, her husband Josh, and grandchildren Bayley, Finley and Sibley of Rochester, N.Y.; by two brothers, Ted Simpson of Canaan, N.H., and Earle Simpson of Norwich Vt.; his sister Michelle (Shelly) Mazzola of Peshastin, Wash.; by his nieces and nephews Linsey Simpson Gallagher, Ben Simpson, Sadie Simpson, Adam Simpson and Oliver Simpson; and his favorite aunt, Sally Lanpher of Rochester.
The family will gather for a private memorial service at a later date when his ashes will be spread. Memorial contributions in his memory should be directed to the Grand Canyon Conservancy, PO Box 399, Grand Canyon AZ 86023 (GrandCanyon.org).
During this time of great human tragedy, isolation, and emotional suffering, it is critical that our pain and loss guide us in finding ways we may care for one another.◊
