STARKSBORO — The Starksboro Area Food Justice and Regenerative Agriculture initiatives of the New Community Project will benefit from a grant bestowed by the Laberge Insurance Agency and Co-operative Insurance Companies. 
New Community Project received a $750 gift this month as part of Co-op’s Community Grants program. 
“We think New Community Project does great work with their Food Justice program,” said Bill Laberge of the Laberge Insurance Agency, “and we’re proud to support their efforts.” 
New Community Project Food Justice Program brings together supporters, volunteers, interns, service learning groups, food panty clients and community members to grow lowcarbon, fresh organic produce for local people while fostering greater food resiliency and security for the community in the face of increasing economic inequality and climate change. 
Co-operative Insurance Companies’ Community Grants Program was established in 2004 to assist with community projects across Vermont and New Hampshire. Through this program, Co-op partners with its agents and directors to provide funds for capital campaigns and operational support throughout the two states. 
“Groups like New Community Project are meeting needs in the same communities that Co-op serves,” said Randy Roy, Co-op’s senior vice president of marketing. “We think it’s important to do our part as neighbors to help them out, and this grant program is one more way we can do that.”
