Letter to the editor: Hooper ‘experienced, levelheaded’

I am excited for what Andy Hooper’s experienced and levelheadedness can bring in Victor Nuovo’s absence to the Middlebury selectboard. I have known Andy since he moved to Middlebury by way of Montpelier several years ago. He was a consistent patron when I was managing a restaurant in town, often coming in with his kids or to steal away on a lunch or dinner date with his wonderful spouse. I know him to be an intelligent, capable and confident person, whether discussing current events, technology, Tigers and Panthers hockey or playing Settlers of Catan.
Andy’s extensive work in the community speaks for itself; the Ilsley Library Board, Addison Regional Planning Commission, Addison Solid Waste and now Maple Broadband. Not to mention his efforts in Montpelier prior to moving to our community. Andy is passionate about the revitalization of downtown Middlebury, and the strain the rail project, and COVID, has put on our already struggling local commerce.
Andy understands local government and has the town as a whole in mind. A great cook, caring father and generous friend, Andy can convey to the selectboard another great perspective to their already stellar members.
I have not yet had the pleasure to meet Esther Thomas, but I do feel lucky that we live in an area where we have so many qualified and energetic members of the community that have the effort and drive to help govern our shire town. But for me, I think we’d be in good hands with Hooper.
