ACSD educators in line for vaccinations

MIDDLEBURY — Hundreds of Addison Central School District educators will get access to COVID-19 vaccinations at a special clinic to be offered at Middlebury Union High School on Tuesday, March 16.
The Vermont National Guard will coordinate the event, which will be the only vaccination site for the ACSD, according to district Superintendent Peter Burrows.
“They will be administering the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine and we will have a follow-up clinic for the second dose three weeks later,” Burrows told the Independent. “At this time, eligible staff include all full-time staff, part-time staff, consultants, active substitutes, bus drivers, student teachers, and winter and spring coaches.”
He added 400 doses of the vaccine will be available at the clinic. There are around 530 ACSD staff who are eligible for the vaccine, but some have already received it and others have scheduled the shots through Walgreens Pharmacy.
“Our hope is to have enough vaccine for everyone who wants to receive it at school, but unfortunately the supply we receive is out of our control,” Burrows said. “Eligible staff also have the option of signing up for vaccination through Walgreens by visiting their website.”
Gov. Phil Scott recently added teachers to the list of Vermonters eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine. The list also includes those aged 65-plus, as well as people older than 55 who have certain high-risk health conditions. Scott is likely to further loosen vaccine restrictions at a press conference this Friday. Check healthvermont.gov/covid-19/vaccine for the latest on the vaccine.
State officials reported on Tuesday that a total of 127,454 Vermonters have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. The DOH reported 22.4% of the Addison County population has received at least one dose of the vaccine.
