Girls basketball stars picked
ADDISON COUNTY — Two members of the Vergennes Union High School girls’ basketball team and one Middlebury player have received postseason honors from the Lake Division.
VUHS senior Kate Gosliga was the only county player named as a First Team Lake All-Star.
VUHS junior Felicia Poirier and MUHS sophomore Ele Sellers both earned Second Team nods.
In addition, the Vermont Basketball Coaches Association recognized Gosliga and Poirier, plus Eagle senior Savannah Scrodin, Otter Valley junior Alice Keith and VUHS Coach Billy Waller.
Scrodin was named to one of the Division I & II teams that normally competes in the VBCA’s annual North-South Senior All-Star Games, while Gosliga was tabbed for a D-III & IV squad.
Also, Poirier and Keith were named to the Girls “Dream Dozen” team of outstanding freshmen, sophomore and junior basketball players.
Finally, Waller was honored as the D-III Girls’ Coach of the Year for helping the Commodores to the D-III title game for the first time since 2008, a run that included an upset of previously undefeated Windsor in the semifinal round.
Waller also was recognized for earning his 300th victory in a coaching career that includes tenures at both Cabot and VUHS.
