VUHS boys nip GMV in opener

WAITSFIELD — Host Green Mountain Valley on Saturday edged the Vergennes Union High School boys’ soccer team, 2-1, in the opener for both teams.
Camden Simpson scored for VUHS and Carter Kendig for the Gumbies in the first half, and Kendig notched the game-winner in the second half.
In the statistically even game, GMVS goalie Chris Jones stopped six shots, and Commodore keeper Ethan Sausville made four saves.
VUHS will host Montpelier on Friday afternoon.
