ANwSU seeks members for Act 46 study panel

VERGENNES — Recent changes to Vermont school law, specifically the creation of Act 46, are requiring the state’s supervisory unions to look at unifying their governance structures to save money and, hopefully, improve kids’ education.
Addison Northwest Supervisory Union — which nearly unified its governing structure under one board twice in the past decade — is now beginning to study the issue again. The first step ANwSU is taking is forming an Act 46 Study Committee, with the goal of submitting a governance unification proposal to the State Board of Education by January.
ANwSU is now seeking volunteers from the towns of Waltham, Panton, Addison, Vergennes and Ferrisburgh to serve on that committee, which will meet once or twice a month between September and December. Those interested are asked to send an email or letter expressing their interest to ANwSU Superintendent JoAn Canning at [email protected]. The deadline is Sept. 7.
The Addison Central, Ferrisburgh Central, Vergennes Union Elementary and Vergennes Union High school boards will then select committee members at their September meetings.
For more information call Canning at 877-3332.
