OV boys’ soccer downs MRU, 1-0
BRANDON — The boys’ soccer team at Otter Valley Union High School split two games late last week, including a homecoming win on Saturday that put the Otters into the victory column.
In that game, a Colton Leno goal set up by Thomas Kingsley midway through the first half gave OV the lead. MRU tied it with nine minutes to go in regulation, but Leno answered with the game-winner three minutes later, again with a Kingsley assist. Josh Letourneau added a pad goal, from Leno. OV goalie Colin Nicklaw made nine saves as the Otters moved to 1-4-2, while MRU’s Austin MacMurray stopped six shots.
On Wednesday, host Proctor improved to 4-1 by blanking the Otters, 3-0. Eli Akin scored all the Proctor goals, all in the first half. Leno and Max Williams gave Phantom keeper Logan Landon tough tests, but Landon was equal to the challenges. Williams also hit the crossbar with a first-half free kick.
