NEW HAVEN — The New Haven Conservation Commission, in partnership with the University of Vermont’s PLACE program, will offer an “Outdoor Naturalist” event on Saturday, Oct. 24, as part of the New Haven “Armchair Naturalist Series.” Local naturalist Craig Zondag will lead a public walk to explore mushrooms, birds and some other highlights of the Watershed Center’s public trails.
Participants will meet at the New Haven Town Hall at 8:15 a.m. to carpool, or at the Watershed Center public access lot at 8:30 a.m. Parking spaces are limited so please carpool when possible.
The Watershed Center has access to four parcels of healthy, beautiful, productive land — the 664-acre Waterworks Property, the 94-acre Lost Pond Forest, the 194-acre Middle Forest, and the four-acre Norton Property in Bristol village.
This event will take place rain or shine. People are reminded to dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes as they will be walking over uneven trails. Organizers suggest bringing water and binoculars, if available.
The New Haven Town Hall is at 78 North St. in New Haven. The Watershed Center parking area is approximately 1.3 miles east of North Street in New Haven on Plank Road near the Bristol town line. A map and directions are available online at www.thewatershedcentervt.org.
