VERGENNES — The Seth Warner – Rhoda Farrand Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution took part in the National DAR Day of Service on Oct. 11 to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the founding of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Members of the local Seth Warner – Rhoda Farrand Chapter made warm fleece blankets for the John Graham Shelter in Vergennes.
The DAR, which is composed of the descendants of the patriots who won American independence, was founded on Oct. 11, 1890, as a service organization to promote historic preservation, education and patriotism.
During the current three-year administration coinciding with the 125th anniversary celebration, the organization has issued a challenge to complete 10 million hours of service to America. The Seth Warner – Rhoda Farrand Chapter performed around 4,000 hours of community service last year and expects to perform even more hours in 2015.
