Opinion: Einstein saga has local connection

One hundred years ago Albert Einstein published some equations which transformed our understanding of the universe.
As we celebrate this anniversary, your readers should appreciate that Einstein’s move from Belgium to the USA in 1933 was mainly the work of Oliver Locker-Lampson, the grandson of a New Haven Vermont farm boy, Curtis Lampson.
Curtis moved to Canada and then England to improve his chances. He became Sir Curtis when he was knighted by Queen Victoria for his role in the laying of the first trans-Atlantic cable.
Locker-Lampson was also a friend of Ernest Shackleton and a supporter of his Antarctic expedition.
