MUHS boys’ hockey loses, 3-1, to Hilltoppers
ST. JOHNSBURY — Host St. Johnsbury defeated the Middlebury Union High School boys’ hockey team on Saturday, 3-1, despite the Tigers’ 44-17 edge in shots on goal.
The loss was the third straight for the Tigers, all on the road, and it dropped them to 7-4-1. MUHS scored just two goals in the three setbacks, and will look to bounce back with a pair of 7 p.m. home games this week, vs. Stowe on Wednesday and vs. North Country on Saturday.
After a scoreless first period, the 3-9 Hilltoppers took a 3-0 lead in the second period, including scoring twice in the final 44 seconds. The Tigers then outshot St. J by 20-0 in the third period, but managed only a Tyler Crowningshield goal assisted by Andrew Gleason.
MUHS goalie Doug DeLorenzo made 14 saves, while St. J’s Tyler Vosinek stopped 43 shots.
