MIDDLEBURY — A Middlebury College student on Jan. 31 provided a valuable assist to state and local authorities who were able to find his property and other items allegedly stolen from campus.
Middlebury police received a report that a MacBook laptop computer had been stolen from a college student. The student was able to trace his stolen device to a North Ferrisburgh address, according to police.
Using this information, Middlebury authorities and Vermont State Police responded to the address and found not only the MacBook, but other items reportedly taken from various common spots on campus, according to Middlebury Police Sgt. Mike Christopher.
As a result, police cited Kevin J. Tower, 19, of Ferrisburgh for possession of stolen property. Police are currently taking inventory of all the items.
In other action last week, Middlebury police:
•  Responded to a domestic dispute at a Valley View Road home on Jan. 26. The arguing parties agreed to separate, police said.
•  Attempted to locate a youth who ran away from John Graham Court on Jan. 26. Police said the family located the child nearby.
•  Issued a no-trespass order on Jan. 26 on a fired worker at a Court Street business on Jan. 26.
•  Returned to her home a confused, elderly woman who had walked into the Helping Overcome Poverty’s Effects headquarters on Boardman Street on Jan. 26.
•  Served no-trespass and stalking orders on a local man on Jan. 26.
•  Received a report about a suicidal man at Porter Hospital on Jan. 26. Police said hospital staff elected to address the matter.
•  Received separate reports on Jan. 26 about two students missing a lot of class time at Mary Hogan Elementary School.
•  Checked on a noise complaint at a Court Street apartment building on Jan. 27. Police said a tenant had injured himself, but was OK.
•  Responded to a one-vehicle roll-over accident, with minor injuries, on North Branch Road on Jan. 27.
•  Investigated a possible assault at the Ilsley Library on Jan. 28.
•  Investigated a possible assault in the Case Street area on Jan. 28.
•  Assisted Middlebury Regional EMS with a dementia patient in the EastView Terrace area on Jan. 28.
•  Received reports on Jan. 28 of some ongoing thefts at Kinney Drugs on Court Street on Jan. 28.
•  Served an order against stalking on a South Village Green woman on Jan. 28.
•  Served a stalking order on a man in the East Main Street area on Jan. 28.
•  Assisted a North Pleasant Street man with an unwanted guest at his home on Jan. 29.
•  Investigated a verbal domestic dispute at the Courtyard by Marriott hotel on Jan. 29.
•  Recovered a used syringe that had been found in a planter at a North Pleasant Street service station on Jan. 29.
•  Assisted with a property dispute on South Pleasant Street on Jan. 29.
•  Were informed of the alleged theft of some money from a resident of the Residences at Otter Creek on Jan. 29. The investigation continues.
•  Received a report of an online exchange of offensive messages by two Middlebury Union Middle School students on Jan. 29. The School Resource Officer is investigating the case.
•  Responded to a reported verbal dispute between a man and woman in the South Pleasant Street area on Jan. 29. Police determined the woman was drunk and that she and the man had been arguing over conspiracy theories. Police took the woman for detox services in Rutland after she had allegedly been denied entry into the Charter House shelter.
•  Assisted Two Brothers Tavern staff with a person who had presented a fake ID on Jan. 29. Police gave the person court diversion paperwork for using a false ID, and for possession of alcohol by a minor.
•  Received a report that a man had used a fake identification card in an attempt to buy alcohol from the Middlebury Short Stop on Court Street Extension on Jan. 30.
•  Seized 1.5 grams of marijuana from a vehicle stopped for having a defective headlight on Court Street on Jan. 30.
•  Assisted a local woman who reported receiving multiple unwanted phone calls during the evening of Jan. 30. Police traced the calls to a prank call website.
•  Responded to a reported vehicle-deer collision on Quarry Road on Jan. 30. Police said the deer had hobbled off upon their arrival.
•  Assisted Porter Hospital officials with a man who had allegedly been calling them repeatedly on Jan. 30.
•  Responded to a report of a ladder that had been left in the middle of North Pleasant Street on Jan. 30.
•  Intervened in a dispute between a North Pleasant Street resident and a visitor on Jan. 30.
•  Responded to a verbal dispute at a North Pleasant Street residence on Jan. 30.
•  Issued court diversion paperwork to two under-age women who had been drinking and were in possession of some open containers of beer on Washington Street on Jan. 30.
•  Responded to a Court Street parking lot, where a car had rolled out of its space and hit another vehicle on Jan. 31.
•  Responded to a 911 call at a Meadow Way home on Jan. 31 involving a dementia patient. Police said various human service agencies assisted the patient.
•  Investigated a report of some people possibly using narcotics in a parking area off North Pleasant Street on Jan. 31. Police said the people in question had left upon their arrival.
