Controversy over dams in the spotlight

NEW HAVEN — Dams — both in Vermont and around the country — are a controversial environmental issue, with some people arguing that waterways would be better served if dams that have outlived their usefulness were torn down. Staff members of The Nature Conservancy will address the topic in a presentation titled “The Dam Controversy” on Thursday, Feb. 18, at 7 p.m. at the New Haven Town Hall.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with a 7 p.m. screening of the award-winning documentary “DamNation.” The film will be followed by a panel discussion on river health with Rose Paul, director of Critical Lands and Conservation Science for The Nature Conservancy, and Brian Fitzgerald, river ecologist for The Nature Conservancy and Vermont Natural Resources Council.
This event is part of the New Haven Conservation Commission’s Armchair Naturalist Speaker Series. Admission is free.
