WOODSTOCK — In two games last week, the Middlebury Union High School boys’ hockey picked up a one-sided road win before earning a tie at first-place Woodstock.
At 11-4-2, the Tigers are unbeaten in their past five contests and in fourth place in Division II heading into a Tuesday home game vs. fifth-place Milton (11-5), which can pass MUHS in the standings with a win in the 7 p.m. contest. They also host Mt. Mansfield on Saturday at 7 p.m. before finishing the regular season at Mount Mansfield next Wednesday.
On this past Wednesday, the Tigers had little trouble at Brattleboro, taking a 3-0 first-period lead on the way to a 7-2 victory. Henry Hodde scored the Tigers’ first and last goals and added an assist to lead the MUHS attack.
Colton Leno, Tyler Giorgio and Tyler Crowningshield each contributed a goal and an assist, Jack Donahue and Andrew Gleason both found the net, Ziven McCarty set up two scores, and Brett Viens, Marty Niemo and River Payne added an assist apiece. Tiger goalie Doug DeLorenzo backstopped the victory with 18 saves.
 On Friday, the Tigers earned a 3-3 tie at Woodstock (14-1-1), in a back-and-forth battle. The Tigers took a quick lead on a  Giorgio strike set up by Viens, but the Wasps scored twice before Andrew Gleason’s unassisted goal at 10:52 made it 2-2 after the first period.
Both teams then struck in the final minute of the second period. The Wasps took the lead at 14:16 and Colton Leno equalized at 14:42. MUHS goalie Sawyer Ryan made 24 saves.
