Vermont pianist Paul Orgel is performing a solo Mozart concert at the Middlebury Community Center for Music this Sunday, Oct. 2 at 4 p.m. in the MCMC Salon. 
Orgel has concertized throughout the United States, Europe and China and as a recitalist, soloist with orchestra and chamber musician. Critics have praised his playing for its “subtlety and attention to nuance” (Philadelphia Inquirer), “rare pathos” (New York Times), “brilliant technique, sense of humor and fantasy” (Bridgeport Post), “warmth and beauty of sound” (Barre-Montpelier Times Argus), and “power and grace” (Vermont Times). A versatile musician with wide- ranging interests and a varied repertoire, he has given notable concerts in such venues as New York’s Merkin Hall, the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., Jordan Hall and the Gardner Museum in Boston, the Ordway Theater in St. Paul and at the San Francisco Conservatory. Orgel can be heard on recordings on CRI, (Music of Louis Moyse, with flutist Karen Kevra, a Grammy nominee), Capstone, Phoenix USA (Piano music of Berman, Haas, Klein, and Ullmann) and MSR (Suk, Chausson, and Reger). Educated at Oberlin, NEC, and Temple University, he is a member of the UVM Music faculty, a piano faculty member of the Green Mountain Chamber Music festival, and a reviewer for Fanfare Magazine.  
During the concert Sunday, Orgel will play Fantasia K. 396; Sonata in F, K. 533/494; 6 Variations on “Salve tu Domine” (Paesiello); Rondo in A Minor, K. 511; Also Curt Cacioppo´s Variations on a Theme of Mozart (2016); and one of his own compositions.
Tickets are by suggested donation at the door; $10 or $20 if you’re feeling generous. All proceeds benefit MCMC’s scholarship fund.
