MUHS girls’ basketball claims opener

WINOOSKI — The Middlebury Union High School girls’ basketball team opened its season on Saturday by defeating host Winooski, 51-40.
The Tigers pulled away in the second half after the Spartans trailed by just four at the break, 23-19.
Keagan Dunbar scored 15 of her 26 points in the first half, and MUHS got more offensive balance in outscoring Winooski after the break, 27-20. Amna Cicak’s 11 points led the 1-1 Spartans, who were coming off a tight win at Vergennes (see story.)
The Tigers visit Fair Haven on Tuesday and Otter Valley on Friday.
