Pilot dies in crash near Middlebury Airport

MIDDLEBURY—At 11:47 a.m. on Friday, a plane crashed at 45 Schoolhouse Hill Road in Middlebury, near the Middlebury Airport, according to Middlebury Police Chief Thomas Hanley. WCAX reports that pilot, the plane’s only occupant, has died. 
The aircraft broke up on impact, which resulted in a fire on the aircraft and a nearby outbuilding on the property. Middlebury regional Emergency Medical Service, the Middlebury Police and Fire Departments responded to the scene.
The cause of the crash is undetermined. Middlebury Police are conducting scene documentation and initial investigation. The crash investigation will be conducted by the VT Agency of Transportation, Aviation Division at the behest of the National transportation Safety Board.
