Paul Robert Skogstrom, 97, of Middlebury
MIDDLEBURY — Paul Robert Skogstrom, 97, passed away peacefully at home Sept. 5, 2026, four days before his 98th birthday. He was born Sept. 9, 1928, in Worcester, Mass., to parents John Gunnar and Amelia Pehrson Skogstrom.
He attended public schools in Worcester and graduated from Clark University with a B.A. degree in Chemistry in 1950. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1951 and served as a chemist working on the development of nerve gas detectors at Edgewood Arsenal in Edgewood, Md., until his discharge in 1953.
He was married to Barbara M. Carlson in 1955 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Worcester, Mass. She passed away in December 2013.
He is survived by his three children, Judy Mayer (Edmond), Amy Skogstrom, and Jonathan Skogstrom; and two grandchildren, Rachel Mayer and Aidan Jones.
Paul worked as an infrared spectroscopist for several companies, and retired from Pennwalt Corporation in 1990 after 28 years, at which time they moved to Crown Point, N.Y., for 20 years, and then moved to Middlebury, Vt., in 2012. A memorial service will be held privately at a later date. ◊
