Salisbury news for Dec. 13

SALISBURY — Thank you, John Flowers, for the nice write up about my career as the Salisbury correspondent. The interview was fun and we certainly talked about many events that had occurred during the years. My daughter Gayle wants folks to know that she still lives and works in Stowe, not Killington, but as we mentioned we have to have a mistake to prove we are human.
The Salisbury Free Public Library will be closed on Tuesday, Dec. 25. and Tuesday, Jan. 1.
There have been large flocks of mergansers on Lake Dunmore. Last Sunday a flock of approximately 80 common mergansers were fishing just at the edge of the ice. It was interesting to see them diving; at times almost the entire flock would disappear below the surface to feed on the fish and the next moment they would all be up again. There was also a smaller flock of hooded mergansers feeding nearby.
The Salisbury UCC Congregational Church will a hold their annual candle lighting Christmas Eve service at 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 24. Everyone is invited to attend this lovely service. The church will hold its usual Sunday service at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 23; there will be no service on Sunday, Dec. 30. Regular Sunday services will resume at 10 a.m. on Jan. 6, 2019.
The town office will close at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 20, and re-open on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019 at 11 a.m.
The selectboard has appointed Ken Tichacek to fill an unexpired vacancy on the board until town meeting. They also approved Chris Turner as editor of the town report.
Editor’s note: Sadly, Mary Burchard’s run as Salisbury Correspondent for the Addison Independent is coming to an end and we are looking for a new Salisbury Correspondent. If you live in town and want to share what is going on with others through the local newspaper as a regular assignment, email us at [email protected].
