There’s an awful lot of destructive fear mongering going on in this election, from the Presidential level right on down to local issues.

One of my big concerns is how Vermont’s affordable heat legislation is being described by some candidates. My understanding is that the only thing that has been approved by the legislature is a series of studies that will determine how the state helps residents transition to non-carbon heating fuel sources — an action that is necessary (globally as well as in Vermont) if we are to survive the climate disasters headed our way.

With the Clean Heat Standard, a process has been started which will result in legislation to hammer out the means by which Vermont does its part battling climate change. And at the same time the impact of wild fluctuations in oil prices on households can be mitigated. The method(s) used to accomplish this transition have not been determined. So how do so many people already know how much it will cost?

I don’t even understand how the Public Utilities Commission came to their conclusions in the recently released report (of course the PUC has never appeared to hesitate about being political).

Why are some people determined to stop this effort? We need to re-elect Chris Bray so he can continue to use his knowledge and concern to help Vermonters deal with the costs of heating our houses in the long run.
