Middlebury Police Log: Local woman cited for assault

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police cited Amanda Rogers-Wilson, 29, of Middlebury for second-degree aggravated domestic assault, and a domestic offense committed within the presence of a child, at a Court Street residence on Jan. 31. 

Police said they were called to the home on a report of a domestic dispute.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

• Checked on a water leak on Case Street on Jan. 29 that was resulting in ice buildup on the road.

• Enforced the town’s overnight winter parking ban in the downtown area on Jan. 29, 30, 31, Feb. 2 and Feb. 5.

• Investigated a report of a person threatening another in the Chateau Road area on Jan. 30.

• Located a stray dog and returned it to its owner on Jan. 30.

• Responded to a report of a man asking people for money in The Centre shopping plaza parking lot on Jan. 30.

• Received a report about a burglary at the former St. Mary’s School building on Shannon Street on Jan. 30.

• Received a report on Jan. 31 about a man who was allegedly trying to harass/intimidate an ex-partner.

• Responded to a reported fight between two people in the Main Street area on Jan. 31.

• Assisted with a “juvenile issue” at Mary Hogan Elementary School on Jan. 31.

• Investigated a bad check report at a Washington Street Extension business on Jan. 31.

• Responded to a “juvenile issue” at Middlebury Union High School on Feb. 1.

• Took a drunken woman to Rutland to receive detox services on Feb. 2.

• Investigated a complaint about a barking dog in the North Pleasant Street area during the evening of Feb. 2.

• Arrested Moriah Donahue, 36, on an outstanding warrant, in the North Pleasant Street area on Feb. 2.

• Assisted a local resident on Feb. 2 who reported receiving a scam call from people pretending to be members of a Mexican cartel, who threatened “extreme violence” unless they were sent money. The extortionists provided names of family members who they’d harm and sent “graphic images” by text, according to police.

• Assisted Middlebury Regional EMS (MREMS) on a medical call off Old Chapel Road on Feb. 3.

• Gave a man a ride from Porter Hospital to the Charter House Emergency Shelter on Feb. 3.

• Assisted MREMS with a medical call in the North Pleasant Street area on Feb. 3.

• Checked on the welfare of a man who was sleeping in an idling truck parked in a North Pleasant Street driveway on Feb. 3.

• Responded to a report of two drunken men in the North Pleasant Street area on Feb. 4. Police took both men into protective custody, sending one to the Charter House Emergency Shelter and the other to Rutland to receive detox services.

• Served a local woman with court-ordered paperwork on Feb. 4.

• Assisted with a custody dispute at a Court Street address on Feb. 4.

• Responded to an untimely death report in the Chipman Hill area on Feb. 4. Police identified the deceased as Nancy Cobden, 76, who they said had died from natural causes.

• Checked on the welfare of a horse in East Middlebury on Feb. 4. Police determined the horse’s needs were being met.
