MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury College has wrapped up its largest fundraising campaign to date two years ahead of schedule.

College officials recently announced that the “For Every Future” campaign has closed after raising $650 million — more than the $600 million goal the institution set for the campaign.

“This achievement reflects not simply the completion of a campaign, but what this community can accomplish together,” Middlebury College President Ian Baucom said in a July 14 release. “I am deeply grateful to the faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and friends who made this possible, and to my predecessor Laurie Patton, whose leadership launched this effort and set it on a path to success. This campaign has secured the foundation on which Middlebury’s future will be built.”

The college began counting toward its For Every Future campaign in July 2021 and kicked off the public phase of the campaign in the fall of 2023. At the time, officials outlined five priorities the funds would support: access, academic excellence, experience, annual giving and capital improvements.

The college had already raised more than $337 million for the campaign by October 2023 and hoped to reach the institution’s $600 million fundraising goal by June 2028. A July 14 announcement from the college states that Middlebury College raised over $105 million in gifts and pledges in fiscal year 2026, which helped the institution surpass its goal for the campaign over two years early.

The announcement highlighted how money raised through the campaign would be used, including a variety of initiatives intended to enrich students’ experiences at the institution. For example, $190 million will go toward strengthening financial aid and providing opportunity grants and $102 million is set to support experiential learning outside of the classroom, including $9.5 million for internships and student research fellowships.

College officials pointed to other results of the campaign, such as $26 million raised for first-generation scholarship support, $19 million for international student scholarships, $11 million for environmental programs and climate leadership and $20 million for midd.data and educational efforts focused on artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies.
