50th CROP walk set for Oct. 5

The 50th Annual Addison County CROP Hunger Walk will take place on Sunday, Oct. 5. Registration will open at noon on the Middlebury Town Green, with walking group team photos at 12:30 p.m. The two-mile walk through town will begin at 1 p.m.

CROP Hunger Walk, a program of Church World Service (CWS), invites walkers and donors to raise money for global relief efforts and for local organizations working to address hunger and food insecurity.

With our support, CWS is able to work with partner agencies around the world to alleviate human suffering and to respond quickly in the wake of natural disasters. Among many other efforts, CWS is presently supporting the survivors of the earthquake in Myanmar and impoverished villages in war-ravaged rural Ukraine.

One-quarter of the funds raised by the Addison County CROP Hunger Walk will also support these local organizations:

• Friday Night Community Supper

• Vergennes Community Food Shelf

• HOPE

• Have a Heart Food Shelf

• John Graham Emergency Shelter

For 50 years, Addison County’s CROP Walk has enjoyed enthusiastic support from individuals and families, communities of faith, and Middlebury College students, faculty and staff. Organizers have set their sights on surpassing the $20,000 that has been raised in recent years. Out of more than 1,000 CROP Walks around the country, our local walks have been among the top 100 in money raised each year.

All are welcome to sign up for the walk and to sponsor a walker with a donation. Forming a team of walkers is encouraged! Visit the Addison County CROP Hunger Walk page to register and to make an online donation.
