Girls’ hoop: VUHS, Mt. Abe prevail
ADDISON COUNTY — In a light girls’ basketball schedule between Jan. 8 and 14, Mount Abraham defeated Otter Valley in its only action of the week, Vergennes breezed in its only game, while Middlebury came up short in its only outing, and OV lost its other contest.
EAGLES-OTTERS
This past Saturday, the Eagles breezed past visiting OV in a 61-33 victory. Mackenzie Griner led the Eagle attack with 20 points, and Hazel Guillmette and Gen Forand (five steals) each scored 10 points as the Eagles improved to 6-1.
Tegan Boynton scored 11 points for the Otters (1-6).
On Jan. 9, undefeated Windsor held the host Otters scoreless in the first quarter on the way to a 68-32 victory. Audrey Rupp led the Yellowjackets with 26 points and 11 steals.
Matelin Laporte paced OV against Windsor with 11 points, and Leann Thomas and Boynton added six points apiece.
COMMODORES
On Jan. 10, the Commodores dispatched visiting Mill River, 53-17. Ashtin Stearns led the charge for VUHS with 18 points, Kendra Jackson scored 14 and Georgia Krause added eight. The Commodores improved to 5-1 with the victory.
Mill River’s Grace St. Pierre and Stella Miglorie accounted for most of MRU’s points with seven apiece.
The Commodores’ Monday game at Fairfax was postponed until March 1.
TIGERS
On Jan. 10, host Fair Haven (5-2) pulled away in the fourth quarter to post a 51-42 victory over the Tigers. MUHS rallied in the third quarter to pull within one point, 37-36, but the 5-2 Slaters took charge from there. Kate Hadwen led Fair Haven with 20 points, and Isabella Cole scored 10.
Solstice Binder paced the Tigers with 15 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Lexi Whitney hit four three-pointers for 12 points, and Kassidy Brown added six points.
The 3-3 Tigers were set to visit Milton on Wednesday after the deadline for this issue.
