Middlebury Police Log: Man cited for animal cruelty
MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police cited Thomas J. George, 29, of Middlebury for animal cruelty and disorderly conduct, following an investigation in the College Street area on Sept. 20. George is alleged to have kicked a dog.
In addition to conducting daily foot patrols in downtown to monitor members of the local houseless community, Middlebury police last week:
• Checked on the welfare of a man stumbling and appearing to be in pain on Blake Roy Road on Sept. 16.
• On Sept. 17, cited Leslie A. Newton, 51, of Middlebury for failure to appear in court.
• Connected a homeless person with mental health counseling services on Sept. 17.
• Investigated a report of suspicious activity at a Court Street business on Sept. 18.
• Gave a local, drunken man a ride to his home on Sept. 18.
• Investigated a report of a fight in the Bakery Lane area on Sept. 18.
• Investigated alleged threats made between two juveniles at Middlebury Union High School on Sept. 18.
• Investigated an allegation of financial exploitation of a local, vulnerable adult on Sept. 19.
• Conducted a traffic stop on Sept. 19 and a related welfare check on Court Street after having received a report of a parent aggressively handling their child in a restaurant parking lot.
• Investigated a report of suspected vandalism to a vehicle parked off Mainelli Road on Sept. 19.
• Followed up on a hoax threat made, via social media, to several schools — including MUHS — on Sept. 19.
• Responded, with Brandon and state police, to a report of multiple gunshots heard at a home off Hooker Road in Leicester on Sept. 19. Police said the reported proved to be unfounded.
• Assisted state police in investigating a reported fight among some people in the Robbins Road area of Salisbury on Sept. 20.
• Responded to a noise complaint at 53 N. Pleasant St. on Sept. 20.
• Responded to a noise complaint in the Jackson Lane area on Sept. 20.
• Investigated a report of threatening behavior in the Bakery Lane area on Sept. 20.
• Assisted state police on a call to the Delorme Road area of Salisbury on Sept. 20.
• Conducted a traffic study on Rogers Road on Sept. 20.
• Responded to a report of a drunken man on Court Street on Sept. 21.
• Responded to a noise complaint on Seymour Street on Sept. 21.
• Responded to a reported fire on the Abbey Pond Trail on Sept. 21.
• Received a complaint about a person urinating in public near the intersection of Halladay Road and Middle Road South on Sept. 21.
• Searched for a possible drunken driver on Exchange Street on Sept. 21.
• Received a complaint about a cow on Route 7 North, near the John Deere dealership, on Sept. 21.
• Responded to a vandalism complaint at St. Mary’s Cemetery off Hillcrest Road on Sept. 21.
• Helped Vermont State Police conduct a welfare check at a home on Columbus Smith Road in Salisbury on Sept. 22.
• Assisted a person having a mental health crisis on Sept. 22.
• Investigated a report of possible underage person drinking in a vehicle parked off College Street on Sept. 22.
• Gave a courtesy ride to a woman who needed to get to Porter Hospital on Sept. 23.
