BEVERLY JOAN DEGRAY

SALISBURY — Beverly Joan DeGray, 86, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2024.

Beverly was born in Ripton, Vt. on Nov. 27, 1937, to Joseph and Cora (Smith) Dragon. She attended Ripton Hollow School and graduated from Middlebury High School, Class of 1955. She worked at various jobs before joining her husband, Rodney, at Middlebury College Food service in 1957. When a new Proctor Hall was built she became manager of The Crest Room. She continued in that role that she loved until she retired in 2000. Over those 43 years she made life-long connections with many of the students. Often graduates would return to campus and make sure to stop in and see her and her crew at The Crest Room. Some of them she still corresponded with.

Being a grandmother was the joy of Beverly’s life. She never missed any event or activity. She could be counted on for a ride to friends, to practices, and for a snack delivery if needed.  Spending the night at Gram and Gramps happened regularly.

Beverly is survived by her daughters, Kim DeGray (Charlie Liberty) of Salisbury and Tae DeGray (Justin Allen) of Middlebury. Grandchildren, Brooke Warner of Pittsford and Shelby Monica of Middlebury. She also leaves brothers, Michael Dragon and Joseph (Kelly) Dragon; and sisters, Marie Cousineau-Warner and Dawn (Bryan) Boise.

Beverly was predeceased by her husband, Rodney DeGray, and her beloved grandson, Jeremiah Warner. Also by her parents and her brother Ellsworth Dragon.

Calling hours will be Monday, Sept. 23, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a brief service at 1 p.m., both at Sanderson Funeral Home located on South Main Street in Middlebury. Graveside committal and burial to follow at Prospect Cemetery in East Middlebury.

A reception for friends and family will be held at the American Legion in Middlebury.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to [email protected], AgeWell, 39 Court St. in Middlebury, or to the charity of one’s choice.

All arrangements are under the care of Sanderson Funeral Home, Middlebury. ◊
