Vermont State Police Log: Police busy beyond plane crash

ADDISON COUNTY — The most significant case that local troopers at the New Haven barracks of the Vermont State Police dealt with in the past week was the crash of a small airplane in Ferrisburgh on Sunday, Sept. 8. Four people from Connecticut were killed in the crash, which is under investigation by federal transportation authorities (see story).

In other recent activity, troopers:

  • On Sept. 4 at around 11:30 a.m. responded to a report of a verbal altercation in Starksboro. Police allege that Natalie Huestis-Bell, 24, of Starksboro caused bodily injury to an Addison woman at the scene. Troopers cited Huestis-Bell for simple assault.
  • On Sept. 5 at a quarter to 6 p.m. observed motor vehicle violation on States Prison Hollow Road near Route 116 in Starksboro and stopped the vehicle. Police ended up citing Travis B. Unger, 40, of Starksboro for driving under the influence, second offense. They also ticketed Unger for driving a vehicle that had an expired inspection sticker, which carries a $105 fine.
  • On Sept. 6 at approximately 5:48 p.m. were patrolling Route 7 in Middlebury when they clocked a motorcycle traveling at 74 mph in a 50 mph zone. After troopers stopped the cycle, they said they found that driver Corey Mangan, 44, of Swanton had some cocaine on him. Police cited Mangan for possession of cocaine and driving with a criminally suspended license.
