Vergennes Police Log: City police deal with issues of abuse
VERGENNES — Vergennes police between July 29 and Aug. 4 dealt with several instances of alleged abuse and harassment, most apparently involving couples and former couples.
On Aug. 3 they advised the male member of a former couple with children to stop harassing his ex, a Second Street resident, by phone, something they described as an ongoing incident. Police said a court was preparing a relief-from abuse order.
On Aug. 2 city police prepared a relief-from-abuse order in a separate case, and on Aug. 4 they calmed a child custody dispute at a Hillside Drive residence. On July 30 police also checked on the welfare of a mother and her children at a Country Commons residence on behalf of the mother’s ex, finding nothing amiss.
Vergennes officers also backed up Vermont State Police on July 30 at what they described as a family fight on Basin Harbor Road in Ferrisburgh.
During those seven days, Vergennes police also conducted 10 patrols in cruisers and 19 traffic stops, processed seven fingerprint requests, conducted three background investigations on individuals hoping to serve in the U.S. armed forces, and:
On July 30:
- Heard a complaint from a School Street resident that delivery trucks were parking in front of his home.
- After hearing a complaint from a Main Street restaurant, escorted an unwanted individual from the premises.
On July 31 issued a no-trespass order to an individual who made a threatening gesture toward a drive-through bank teller.
On Aug. 1:
- Responded along with the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad and city firefighters on Aug. 1 to a two-car accident at the intersection of Main Street and Monkton Road in which one person was shaken up, but did not require more than brief medical attention.
- Assisted the Department of Homeland Security with an investigation in Addison.
- Gave a courtesy ride to a motorist whose vehicle ran out of gas on West Main Street.
- Ticketed a commercial truck for driving on Monkton Road while overweight.
On Aug. 2:
- Began investigating a case of a juvenile female exchanging photos with a juvenile male.
- Helped state police with an accident in Waltham.
- Ticketed a commercial truck for speeding.
On Aug. 3 responded just after 5 a.m. to a one-car accident with two injuries at the intersection of Main and South Water streets. Police said the vehicle hit a sign and a tree. VARS and Charlotte rescue each transported a victim, police said.
On Aug. 4 ticketed a driver for an open alcohol container in a moving vehicle.
