WINOOSKI — Vergennes Champs swimmers combined to win 20 races and claim third place in Champlain Valley Swim League’s championship meet, hosted on this past Friday and Saturday in the Winooski municipal pool.

Middlebury Marlins swimmers won eight races and took fourth in the seven-team meet, which was won for the third straight summer by the Burlington Tennis Club team, also the two-time Vermont Swim Association champion.

All the teams will head this weekend to the Upper Valley Aquatic Center in Hartford for the state championship meet.

Younger Vergennes swimmers racked up many of the Champs’ points. Savannah Wallace and Riker Cooley, competitors in the youngest division, won four races apiece, and Cooley helped Champ U-8 relay teams pick up two victories, along with double.

Champ U-10 swimmers Connor Husk and Brantley Cook earned three and two wins, respectively, and Ella Bearor, Ellie Brooks, Will Clark and Scarlett Giroux earned one league championship apiece.

U-10 competitor Felix Poduschnick led the Marlins with three convincing victories, and U-12 swimmer Henry Cadoret won twice. Netting one league title apiece were Cooper Butler, Porter Mackey and veteran Connor McNamara.

The team scores were Burlington Tennis Club, 868; St. Albans, 725; Vergennes, 510; Middlebury, 317; Winooski, 261; Burlington Country Club, 152.5; and Winooski, 124.5.
