Letter to the editor: Rare sighting in downtown

On March 7, I was sitting in the window table of Sabai Sabai restaurant on Merchants Row in Middlebury with some girlfriends. It was 7:30 p.m. and I glanced out the window and saw a beaver step off the street and onto the sidewalk. The streetlights clearly shone off her large flat tail. She appeared to head between the buildings toward the Otter Creek.

I pointed it out to my friends saying, “that is a blank beaver.”

Two-year-old beavers disperse when the snow melts to look for a place to call home. I never thought to see one on the sidewalk in downtown Middlebury.
