ARTHUR “FRED” GRANT
ADDISON — On Oct. 5, 2023, Arthur Grant, affectionately known as Fred by family and childhood friends from Chelsea, left his earthly home to join his beloved wife, Helen.
Born at home in Chelsea, Vt., on Oct. 23, 1931, Art always said he had seen the best of times and was glad he lived when he did.
If you had time to sit and listen, Art always had a story to tell, whether from his youth growing up on the Chelsea West Hill attending a one-room schoolhouse or the travels he shared with his wife. His stories were made even better by his old time Vermont accent which added character.
Art was known for his hard work, which started at a young age using a cross-cut saw to cut pulp wood and Christmas trees to buy his first car. Whether working in the woods, farming or shoveling sawdust into his 70’s, he was extremely proud of his work ethic and accomplishments and that his boys had acquired those same values. He spent many hours preaching the importance of hard work and good values to his grandchildren who he was extremely proud of.
He was a member of the Victory Baptist Church in Waltham and a member of the Masons.
Art leaves behind his brother Leon (Sandy) Grant, and sister Beverly Casey; his twin boys, Gerald (Paula) and Gary (Tammy); his stepson Craig L’Heureux; son-in-law Donald Collette; grandchildren Gary, Arthur (Tiffany), Geoffrey (Katie), Chelsea (Adam) Thomann, Jordon (Ashley), James (Stephanie) Ball; and his great-grandchildren, Hunter, Kendra, Camryn, Holden, Avery, Wylder, and Lane.
He was predeceased by his wife, Helen; his parents, Walter and Marion Grant; brothers Gerald and Gordie Grant; and stepchildren Norma (Tootie) Collette and Leonard Ball.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, Oct. 13, from 7 to 9 p.m., at the Victory Baptist Church in Waltham, Vt. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14, also at Victory Baptist Church in Waltham. Interment will be in Prospect Cemetery in Vergennes. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Porter Medical Center, Middlebury, Vt. To send online condolences to his family please visit www.brownmcclayfuneralhomes.com ◊
