College to upgrade its ballfields

MIDDLEBURY COLLEGE PLANS to replace the playing surface of its baseball field, seen here, and the softball field behind it, both off South Street, with artificial turf. The project would also add seating behind home plate of both fields and make other upgrades, without changing the field’s footprints. College officials say the changes will allow the teams to have more practice time as well as early-season home games. Independent photo/Andy Kirkaldy
