Letter to the editor: Douglas is wrong on Mead issue

With his recent lawsuit against Middlebury College, former Gov. Jim Douglas, who for years has tried to cement a legacy for himself as a moderate, common-sense Republican, has unmasked himself as just another whiney, white-wing culture warrior.

His lawsuit is a farce and an abuse of our court system’s limited resources. To use a legal term of art, it fails to state a claim upon which relief could be granted.

That his suit will be tossed out of court in short order is unlikely to bother Douglas much, as it was clearly designed not to achieve an outcome through litigation, but simply to tap into the current of grievance politics that defines the modern Republican Party, and thus gain Douglas some airtime on Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity, with which he can hawk a few copies of his moribund memoir.

Shame on you, Governor.
