Vergennes holiday toy drive in need of donations now

VERGENNES — The Vergennes Lions Club, working with the Marine Corps League, is reporting a much slower time getting donations for its kids toys drive this year.

“Please remind folks that all toys, mittens, gloves and scarves donated to ‘Toys for Kids’ in the Vergennes area remain in the Vergennes area,” Lion Sue Hayes says. “Please look for the large red barrels at Dollar General, Ferrisburgh Bake Shop & Deli, Gaines Insurance, Jackman Fuels, Kinney Drugs, Long Trail on the Falls PT, and Shear Cuts Hairdressers to make your donations.”

The “store” for needy parents to choose toys for their kids will be at Long Trail on Meigs Road on Friday, Dec. 16 (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) and Saturday, Dec. 17 (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.).

Children from needy families will have an opportunity to choose gifts for their parents or caregivers on Sunday, Dec. 18 (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) at the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad building on Panton Road. Funds for this project are earned by the Vergennes Lions and Vergennes Rotary clubs through the Memory Tree Donations.  A listing of all folks memorialized will appear later in the paper.
