Lincoln news for Feb. 24
LINCOLN — An open art studio will be happening at the Lincoln Library. This opportunity is funded by a grant from the Five Town Friends of the Arts in collaboration with Betsy Graziadei. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on children and families, this program serves to create opportunities to address health and wellness needs within a community art setting.
An open art studio format is a flexible structure for the use of art media that invites a wide range of ages to engage with materials together in their own individual way. This structure allows for a flow of participants into and out of a collective “studio.”
Kids can visit, observe, or choose to make art with selected materials. An art therapist serves to facilitate participation as they feel comfortable. Materials may be introduced with instruction, support of a “third hand” and modeling or simply displayed for discussion and inspiration. Participants will be guided with predictable routines and expectations for safe, independent and productive use of art media in the setting. They will be supported in engaging verbally and non-verbally throughout the process that provides the necessary conditions to practice self-regulation, build executive function and communication skills while expressing themselves with their chosen materials.
The studio serves ages 3-13 and will take place on March 4, 18 and April 1 and will run from 3-5 p.m. at the library. Come when you can, materials, smocks and snacks provided. If you have any questions, please contact Wendy at [email protected].

The virtual Town Meeting public information hearing will be held on Monday, Feb. 28, at 6 p.m. The annual town and school district election will be Tuesday, March 1, from 7 a.m. to 7: p.m. at Burnham Hall.
