Tiger softball falls in Div. II semifinal

LYNDONVILLE — On Wednesday top-seeded host Lyndon defeated the No. 5 Middlebury Union High School softball team, 10-0, in a Division II semifinal.

The Vikings improved to 14-1, while the Tigers finished at 11-7, a record that included two playoff wins.

Lyndon pitcher Kelleigh Simpson tossed a complete-game three-hitter, striking out 14, while Tiger ace Olivia Audet took the pitching loss.

Emily Tanner led the Vikings with three hits, and Emma Newland and Jaydin Royer each had two hits. Lyndon broke the game open with six runs in the third inning in a game that had been postponed from Tuesday.

The Tigers reached the semifinal with a pair of earlier wins last week. On June 2 in their first-round game they edged visiting No. 12 Spaulding, 2-1, as Audet tossed a complete-game two-hitter, striking out 15 and walking none.

Audet also doubled, singled and drove in the first MUHS run. Taylor Betourney also doubled and contributed the game’s key hit, a tie-breaking single in the fifth inning that plated the winning run.

On June 5 the Tigers thumped No. 4 Springfield, 15-2. Audet earned the pitching win, striking out 13 and surrendering five hits. Audet also doubled, singled, drove in two runs and scored three times.

Also sparking the Tiger attack were Riley Farrell, with two hits, four runs and an RBI; Betourney, with three hits, two RBIs and three runs; Patience Hanley, with two hits and three RBIs; and Grace Paquette, with two hits and an RBI.
