Vermont State Police Log: State troopers issue $530 speeding ticket
ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police troopers issued a $530 ticket for speeding on May 25.
They saw a vehicle speeding northbound on Route 7 in New Haven at what they called an egregiously high rate of speed on May 25 at around 3:30 p.m. Police report that the car was passing several motor vehicles, also traveling north, and was clocked at 85 mph in a 50 mph zone.
A trooper stopped the car and identified the driver as Douglas Yantz, 53, of Colchester.
Police then issued Yantz the speeding ticket for $530.
State police reminded drivers that in many fatal motor vehicle crashes, driving in excess of the posted speed limit is often a major contributing factor. As the warmer weather continues, the Vermont State Police encourages drivers to do their part in reducing the amount of fatal crashes on Vermont roadways by traveling at or below the posted speed limit.
In other recent activity, troopers:
• On May 26 at about 12:47 a.m. received a report of family fight that was taking place at a residence in the Bluebird Lane area in Starksboro. After investigating, police alleged that Sara Kimball, 25, of Starksboro had physically assaulted a household member. She was transported to the New Haven state police barracks and cited for domestic assault.
• On May 27 at 11:45 p.m. responded to a one-car crash on Rockydale Road in Bristol. Police report that Harley Allen, 22, of Bristol lost control of the vehicle and it rolled into the woods. Allen was transported to Porter Hospital and subsequently cited for driving under the influence.
